Today EcoTech Marine will announce their new Vortech MP60 propeller pump. The MP60 is a complete overhaul of past designs and EcoTech is not scared to express their thoughts. “It’s our best pump yet” said President Tim Marks, “We’re proud of the technology behind the Vortech MP60″.

What you need to know about the Vortech MP60

The 4″ diameter MP60 W ES is capable of pushing a conservative 5,500gph at just 60w [Update: the production model Vortech MP60 received a boost and will push a maximum of 7,500gph!]. On the opposite side of the spectrum, when dialed down the pump pushes a minimum 2,500 gph at 10w. As the MP60 is aimed at larger aquariums, the new design can accommodate glass up to 1″ thick; With a minimum thickness of 3/8″! This finally makes Vortechs a reality for large tank owners. Like the MP40, the 60 will come with the recently launched EcoSmart Vortech controller.

Of course, such performance comes at a cost. The Vortech MP60 will retail for $695 and become available later this year.

The MP60 continues to build on the progress EcoTech has made with their unique Vortech design concept. This time though, it’s difficult to imagine it get any better. The pump is quieter, cooler, and more powerful than ever.

The MP60 wetside is similar to the MP10, however, it’s the dry side that makes this pump unlike any Vortech you’ve seen. On the back of the dryside are vents and a turbine fan that sucks air from the back of the pump casing and outputs it radially to the sides of the pump. To harness the cooling power of this fan, EcoTech fitted the MP60 with an efficient heatsink. Together, they are able to drop the dry side temperature nearly 50C, making the motor practically cool to the touch.

The Vortech MP60′s dryside also features a dynamically balanced magnet. More to the point, when discussing this feature Marks quipped, “This drastically reduces vibration, thus noise.”

Rumors on the MP60 have been floating around for some time now, and it’s true some beta units are out there. Those who have gotten their hands on the most recent model seem to agree that the flow, noise, and design are impeccable. EcoTech Marine will have a Vortech MP60 on display at MACNA this weekend.
