I thought I’d add, what makes the VeggieMag unique is not that it ismagnetic–this has been done before, but the special cling material that is used allows a much smaller magnet to be used. It is just over 1.5″ in diameter and works up to 3/4″ glass and floats. A job well done by Julian.

Yeah, I agree…not a new idea, but certainly one that has been underutilized. The Mag Racks and Mag Frags and even the larger rock that magnetizes to the rear or sides of the tanks have all been great ideas, I've thought, but I can't understand why they haven't basically taken the place of ALL suction cup products. I'd imagine they are a little more expensive, but I think most would agree that it's worth the slight expensive. I'm still waiting to hear someone who says “You guys are way off, I LOVE suction cups”!!! Not sure if that person exists.

Definitely not a new idea, these have been around and been DIY'd before (http://www.mag-racks.com/magclips.htm). I'm surprised that mag-float hasn't jumped on the idea sooner, they could've retained their "patent" on items using magnets that float.

Nicholas, thanks for the heads up. I think the magnets are not only more convenient but they're more sterile to use, I say sterile for lack of a better word but Im sure it'll get the point across…

Hi Biglan-just wanted to let you know that JBJ's new heater with controller does appear to come with magnets to hold the heating unit. It's by no means cheap though, which is why I haven't gotten it. I think Zoo-Med also makes universal magnets which could serve that purpose as well, but seems much more sensible and only slightly more expensive for them to just offer magnet mounts with all heaters, right? They really do make things MUCH, MUCH easier and I can tell by the amount of replies to Eric's article that I'm not the only one!!!

What is the “strength” of the actual algae CLIP? I have just as much issue with it not gripping striong enough to hold the nori from the fish yanking it out, as I do the suction cup giving way. I have found the other TLF clip to be above average, but too easy to disassemble (inadvertantly), and end up losing pieces all the time.

I know, a petty issue, but hey, make the whole thing better, right?

its really ridiculous how this barley came out in 2010. and the most surprising is that there is a patent on it too. he going to be rich (er).
