    TMC Aquabeam 1500 XG

American reefers may have just begun seeing the TMC Aquabeam 1000HD, but UK based Tropical Marine Centre has just shown their latest addition to their Aquabeam line–the 1500XG–at this years InterZoo. As we reported back in February, TMC began experimenting with Cree’s latest LED and the Aquabeam 1500XG Ultima is the result.

The Aquabeam 1500XG looks nearly identical to the Aquabeam 1000HD (shown above), except that it packs 10 Cree XP-G LEDs rather than the 10 Cree XR-E leds. The XP-G is the most efficient and brightest (lumen per watt) LED currently available. Photos from the event also show that TMC has opted for a widespread optical design (or lack there of), to allow ample light spread from the more powerful LEDs.

As the XP-G is only available in various white bins, the Aquabeam 1500 XG will emit a ~9,000K light from 10 white XP-Gs and will be dubbed Ocean White. This will be a serious upgrade, with significantly more PAR than the currently available 1000 HD model.

For more information on this 20 x 20cm tile design see our PAR analysis on the original TMC Aquabeam 1000HD.
