Following up from Sicce’s popular Syncra line, the Italian pump manufacturer has added onto their PSK series, officially pushing the popular Sicce PSK 2500 pump into the shadows of 2009. The new PSK-line additions include PSK 1000 (880gph) and the PSK 600 (661gph). These pumps take some construction cues from the Syncra line, with a PSK 2500 style large volute for increased air pull.

In case you missed it the PSK600 pushes 1 gph more (661 gph v 660 gph) than the PSK2500 pump, meanwhile the 60w, 880gph PSK 1000 is a much larger model that should be capable of fulfilling the needs of medium size skimmers (200g range) that have suffered from limited options–think between an Askoll / Laguna and the original Sicce 2500.

See here for a great comparison photo of the original Sicce PSK2500 to the new Sicce PSK1000 and Sicce PSK600
The PSK 600 and 1000 pumps are said to be more reliable, operate quieter and fewer start up issues. To give you an idea of Sicce’s intentions, these are being marketed as Sicce Professional Skimmer Pumps, even when in stock configuration and lacking venturis and needlewheels.

Based on the early adoption it seems to be more than just marketing. This is the pump Elos is using on their first ever needlewheel based skimmer. If that’s not enough to convince you, ATB has stopped production of the unique ATB Mini Airstar in favor of the more efficient PSK1000 pump in a simple bracket–as shown here. The Sicce PSK60o is currently priced at the same as the 2500 at $90, while the more powerful PSK 1000 commands a pricetag of $100.
With the skimmer craze now flat lining due to price wars, I have a strong feeling these pumps will rise in popularity. With less manual labor required than the PSK 2500, the 600 and 1000 are “cheaper” than their price tag initially indicates.
