This past Tuesday, Australian based LFS Seca Marine Life was broken into and robbed. Local news agencies are reporting that 6 baby pythons were taken while the fish folding systems were spiked with an unknown substance–killing the majority of the fish in the 34 tanks and severly injuring those that pulled through.

It is being estimated that $30,000 AUD ($20K USD) in marine fish were lost. Owner Robert Anderson we understandably distraught over the ordeal and believes the attack was from someone within the industry. He also suggested their recent price changes may have spurred the action. “We’ve only just lowered our prices and it’s a very competitive market out here,” said Anderson to Leader News.

Authorities hope to find the people responsible and are considering pressing animal cruelty charges; rightfully so. Catch those [ insert profanity ].

    Thanks Abe

If it's true that it's someone within the industry that did this, it's just that more horrendous. I never understand why someone would go into the aquatics business purely for profit without caring about the animals. It seems like there's many more much profitable ventures NOT including animals. It also sort of doesn't make sense. If it was a competitor, why would they steal 6 baby snakes and then just poison everything else? I don't understand people who are horribly cruel to animals (of all kinds) who really do nothing but help us (dogs in millions of ways, others, like fish, as resources). I know lots of people get angry at me for this view, but I really find crimes against animals to be some of the most heinous. My strong sympathies to the owner and his family.

That's disgusting. An embarassment to the industry and to humanity.

This is horrible. I'm so glad nothing like this has happened in South Africa. Everyone has competitive prices here on certain animals in the marine trade. But I've never heard of people sabotaging livestock, that's just pitiful.

      What goes around comes around.

It is hard to not get worked up when I read something like this. The people who broke in obviously knew what they were doing in order to kill all those fish. Hopefully they figure out who was responsible for this.
