The summer edition of Reefs Magazine is out and without a doubt the best issue to date. Thanks to Matt Wandell we even get some Chaetodont-reef tank love. Other writers rounding out the issue include: Richard Ross, Kevin Kohen, Chris Jury, Christine Williams, Michael Lukaczyn and James Passantino. Brief synopsis below:

    • Ceph-head Rich kicks off the magazine with a critical thinking piece. The underlying message: be a skeptic. It’s a great read and the filefish photo and caption are the cherry on top.
    • Kevin Kohen shows off two near perfect aquarium specimens: the beautiful Aurulentus and Flavoguttatus Anthias. It’s arguably the best single source of information and images you can find on these two deepwater species.
    • Chris Jury provides some clarity to the reef aquarium temperature debate–providing seasonal temperature data from various locales.
    • Matt Wandell provides a GBD approved list of potentially reef safe butterflyfish. If you can swing it and find it, Prognathodes guyanensis shown above is as good as it gets.
    • GBD reader and azoox pro Michael Lukazyn shares his experiences with Criniods. Hats off to Mike, he’s kept these once impossible to keep animals for 2.5 yrs.
    • Did you know Beta Glucan activates macrophages? Now you do thanks to Christine Williams’ piece on Beta Glucan’s roll in fish’ immune systems
    • James offers some sound advice on frags–don’t be a hoard. Only get what you need, you’re tank will look better.

Hats off to Randy Donowitz and the Reefs Magazine crew. Every article is interesting and most importantly–relevant. Check it out.
