We’ve been bitting our tongues on this one, but yesterday the Barca based aquarium manufacturer Planctonite broke the news by tweeting that their new Sweeper 2.0 “self cleaning head” system will become available in Februrary. You may remember the much more raw version we showed you weeks back, on the Planctonite Minibot protein skimmer. The new Sweeper 2.0 comes after Planctonite and ATB have teamed up to release the sweeper for nearly the entire line of ATB Skimmers. ATB owners will notice the lid shown in the photos looks pretty familiar…
The function of this device is nearly identical to the AquaDriver Skim Clean–it features a motor with an attached rubber blade that wipes the neck of the skimmer clean. This prevents buildup in the neck, and is thought to improve performance. Planctonite will also offer a premium model called the Sweeper V 2.0 Plus will also be available and features small water pump sprays the neck to literally wash it down. Both the Normal and Plus versions will come with appropriate 12v AC/DC adapter and a spare rubber brush for future replacements. Here’s what Planctonite has to say about their new product:
In this new version of Sweeper the cleaning head is magnetically driven, facilitating the cleaning/rinsing of the system and easy storage when not in use for long periods of time.
Sweeper V2.0 works at 12V/DC, contributing to a safer, risk free environment.
Sweeper V2.0 is universal. Thanks to the included extra blades and accesories, can be installed in virtually 100% of the skimmers available in the market with a neck diameter above 50 mm, conic necks included!

As expected, the Sweeper V2.0 is not cheap–it’s currently on sale €194, after February pricing will increase to €215 or $320. The details with ATB are not yet completed, meaning we have no word on pricing for the ATB models or how these will be sold in conjunction with the Cone Skimmer line.
Expect to see these hit European and American retailers in the next 3-4 weeks and keep an eye out for Planctonite’s automated ZEO reactor which is currently in the works.
