ORA recently shared this video of their tiny captive raise Spotted Mandarin Gobies taking down a large piece of frozen Nutramar Ova. ORA Mandarins do eat prepared foods, but don’t expect these tiny juveniles to take to them as readily as ORA’s equally popular clowns.

It should go without saying–these Mandarins, and all new additions, are an ideal candidate for quarantine. They can greatly benefit from some time alone, allowing the aquarist to find what foods and feeding methods work best for the individual fish. It also allows the Mandarin to restore its energy reserves without the stress of fending off tank mates for food.

    ORA Mandarin

Quarantine doesn’t always equal treatment, it means time alone to adapt to your aquarium keeping. An ideal quarantine for these fish would a small aquarium provided with clean water, low flow and ample live rock.

Some aquarists have been skeptical of the long term care and diet of ORA Mandarins, but in my opinions many of these cautions are misdirected. It is the species and aquarium setting, not the rearing. Many wild Mandarin Gobies have been weaned onto prepared foods and lived long prosperous lives.

These are fish best reserved for reefs with ample flora and fauna to make your life as a caretaker and meal provider easier. As with any fish, an ideal diet for ORA Mandarins will consist of prepared foods, supplemented with live.

I was wondering if anyone knows where to order the blue ORA mandarin dragonets from on the internet? I can’t seem to find a site or store that is offering even a waiting list.
