Take a look at Aqua Illumination’s newest, yet to be named AI WAVE LED lighting solution. Based on the Cree XP-E and first in class XP-G, these AI tubes will provide one of the most energy efficient lighting options available for marine aquarists. The lights are said to be driven at ~350mA, taking advantage of the XPs maximum luminous efficacy range and minimizing heat and energy use.
Each AI Wave is 12″ long and fitted with 6 LEDs for roughly 8w of electric consumption. LPS fans will be happy to hear these will come in all royal blue, as well as blue, white and combinations of the three. Even more promising is that these will be fully dimmable with a simple 0-10v analog control as seen on many modern aquarium controllers, i.e. Neptune’s Apex.
For a sense of scale the AI light bar is just slightly larger in diameter than a T5 lamp. As shown above, the lights feature a unique locking mechanism that can allow up to 6 units to be connected in a row, for 6 feet of light coverage. Additionally they are waterproof with close adhesion to IP66 standard.
Pricing is still TBD along with the product’s final name. We’ve heard AI use the name ‘Slim’ and ‘Beam’, although neither have been set in stone.
