Haven’t heard of Goldfish Racing? It’s the flippy cup of the future, involving two straws, two goldfish and acrylic racing lanes. It’s pure fun. Seriously?
Yes, the photo above is real and apparently goldfish racing has been taking place for sometime now. [Let us know if you've seen this in action]. Like ‘bags’, manufacturers have started producing the acrylic raceways to sell as entertainment games, complete with finish line banners overhead. One such company is Houle Entertainment. On their website they state:
You already know the value of involving people in fun activities to enhance Team-building and other events.
May we suggest “LIVE GOLDFISH RACING” at your next social or corporate event.
We are proud to introduce “Live Goldfish Racing” as the newest activity in our array of corporate and entertainment games.
8-foot long clear acrylic racing lanes come equipped with water, a starting gate and live goldfish
Players blow bubbles through a straw in the water behind the fish to help their fish cross the finish line first.
Many laughs are sure to be had by all! No special talent or ability needed (other than the players must be breathing!) – It is hilarious to watch and even more fun to participate.
But what about the fish? Good thing Houle has a special section on this:
CONCERNED ABOUT OUR GOLDFISH? We are too!
Rest assured, these fish are not harmed in any way.
These are “feeder fish”, bred for the purpose of feeding to other carnivorous fish such as piranhas.
We have saved them from this perilous situation, and have given them a new lease on life with a career in Racing. They are well fed, and well exercised in these 8′ long lanes, and get changed out regularly after every race. This strengthens them & helps increase their chances to get away from other predators if they are returned to the store of origin. But most of our fish actually end up being cared for in a large outdoor fish pond that we donate to, where they live out their lives in the company of other fish.
So yes, It doesn’t require talent (just be able to breathe). You’ll give a prosperous career to an otherwise nobody goldfish that would have end up being mauled by Pirhanas anyways… and you can drink beer. It’s just not recommended to try doing so while racing at the same time. Goldfish Racing FTW!
Humans. Coming up with great stupid ideas since the Middle Plaeolithic.
