This Genicanthus personatus is one of the smallest ever collected and will go down as one the most impressive Angelfish for many years to come. As we reported earlier, this fish was collected by Rufus Kimura at extreme depths in the waters of Hawaii. It was offered for sale in the United States, but as most rare fish enthusiasts know, fish like this almost always go to Japan.

To Japan it went. Mr. Koji Wada of Blue Harbor Aquarium received the tiny Masked Angel and it quickly sold to one of his customers–for the price of a small car! Out of the bag the fish was accepting prepared foods. Accordingly the buyer took the fish home after just 3 hours at Blue Harbor.

During that time Koji and his staff were able to take some photos, and even a video which we share with you here today. It may not be HD, but this is the best footage of a juvenile Masked Angelfish (Genicanthus personatus) that you’ll find on the internet. A special thanks to Mr. Wada and our friends at Blue Harbor for sharing these fantastic images and the clips compiled below.

I’m not one to jump on the “rare” bandwagon, but that is a beautiful angelfish.

Dear lord… thank you for reaffirming why I love Angelfish so damn much, Eric.
