      Hi Tetsuo

I noticed a Becket type skimmer in the backround. It seems that they are very popular in Japan. Have pinwheel skimmers caught on if not any reason for it?

      Thanks for your help

      Jim,

I can't speak for Tetsuo, but the skimmer seen in the photo is an ETSS Downdraft–for which Blue Harbor is the Japanese Distributor.

You are correct that downdraft and becket skimmers are more popular, but needlewheel are also growing in popularity. H&S is widely available and just a few months ago Bubble Kings began selling for the first time. Perhaps Tetsuo can elaborate on this.

      Hi Jim,

Japanese aquarist loves high power skimmers such as ETSS(Downdraft) or Becket type. Previously we thought needlewheel was not enough power for reef aqauriums.

Now we know that Bubble Kings or other brand have a good performance, silent, and less eletric.
I am using 2 needlewheel skimmers now.
I am so happy to performance, and now many my friends interest in needlewheel.

      Thanks Guys for your comments.
Which needle wheel are you currently using?
Have you got ATB skimmers in Japan?

      Thanks

ATB's have not made their way to Japan, although that's not to say they won't in the future.
