Aqua Illumination (AI) has just released a new beta firmware update (3RC7) that now allows control of each color channel (Royal Blue, Blue, and White) for the recently added Sol Blue color option. The addition of the third channel will allow users to better adjust the color temperature and intensity of light entering their aquarium. For Sol White owners, this feature will not be necessary, but don’t fret. There are plenty of other new upgrades–including cloud cover simulation.

When first connecting the controller, users will be prompted to select which model they have (Sol White or Sol Blue). This will tailor the remaining set up process accordingly.

Regardless of your Sol Model, the firmware update provides the following features:

    • 14 independent light timers, with independent intensity (dimming) levels.
    • Lunar Cycle simulates phases of the moon based on calendar day/month.
    • Thunderstorm simulation: Randomly creates lightning and cloudy weather effects.
    • Manual or Automatic Mode.
    • Override timer operations at any time with a push of a button.
    • Maintains clock and configuration during power outages without the need forĀ batteries.

    From AI:

Happy Holidays! We’ve had a tremendous number of requests for our Feburary beta AI Controller firmware and appreciate all the interest and feedback. It’s been a long time coming, but all good things come in time.

Our AI Controller version 3RC7 for the AI Sol White and Blue includes cloud cover, lightning storm simulation, independent LED channel control, and more!

The firmware isn’t in release state, so be gentle. If you run into any bugs, please let us know.

    Enjoy!

Your fish and corals may not require cloud cover simulations–but lets face it, it’s pretty cool to watch. One of the greatest benefits of LED lighting is the control they offer and we’re pleased to see more LED lights tap into this.

I like many other AI fans still await the AI Flare release! Coupled with the upgraded contoller, should be a desirable option for the replacement of standard T5’s under the hood……..c’mon AI, show us some flare!
