We’ve been playing err… reviewing the new Vortech MP10 pump from EcoTech Marine over the past couple weeks. The product is refined and while I do not mean to discount the MP40w or MP20, the MP10 really shows the growth EcoTech has made as a company. It’s the details that matter in such a niche industry and EcoTech has every one covered.
The packaging is bold, yet classy and shows the detail and thought put into this mini-might. Open the lid and your in for a whimsical and impressive packaging display. The wetend and motor of the Vortech MP10 are placed in a printed cardboard cut out, as if the pump were functioning and sandwiching the glass. Not only is it sure to sell a few units when a potential customer opens the lid, it does a great job of protecting the pump from potential shipping damage! Anyone who appreciates design will appreciate this packaging–it really caught me off guard, in a good way.
Vortech Wetsides: (L) MP20 /40w (R) MP10
It’s difficult to understand just how small the MP10 is without comparing it to its family members. Shown above is the propeller part of the wetframe for the MP20, which is the same as the MP40w, contrasting to the miniscule size of the MP10 on the right. It’s small, really small.
Construction wise, the MP10 has some noticeable differences. Starting with the propeller portion, EcoTech opted for what appears to be a polished ceramic shaft. The tolerances here are noticeably tighter than the MP20 and MP40w. The wetframe screen also has a sleeker, more rounded characteristic than then its larger siblings. In comparison to the proportions of the MP40w’s motor, the MP10′s is narrower and slightly longer. The ridges placed on the nylon body allow easy handling when placing the pump on the glass.
Placing the pump is as far as we’re going this time. Performance testing to come… as soon as we finish playing Poseidon and splashing water everywhere.
