Vertex Aquaristik has revamped the now defunct Wavy-Sea product, increasing robustness and bringing the redesigned product back to life under the Vertex Mocean name. For those unfamiliar with the design, the Mocean return device adds chaotic water motion to your return pump’s output via a controllable DC motor that oscillates the flow back and forth. The output nozzle can rotate a full 360 degrees although typically 180 is all that is needed. The amount of rotation and speed can be controlled by the user.

    Vertex Mocean 3500

We spoke with Vertex N.A. Distributor, Proline Aquatics about the revamped product line to learn more about. We are informed that the previous wavy-sea products suffered from an internal design and quality problems. Despite the exterior remaining the same, the motor and gear system has been completely revamped on all Mocean oscillating returns.

You can pick up the new Motion wavemaking devices for $270 for the 2000 model and $315 for the 3500 model. Both are available at Premium Aquatics and Salty Supply. Additional technical information from Vertex below.

    WAVE MAKERS/MOCEAN

Random, chaotic flow patterns have an extensive recognition as an essential aspect of advanced reef husbandry,

the results of its integration noticeably increasing the vigor of the reef’s inhabitants while greatly heightening the

visual impact of the display. The Vertex™ Mocean 2000 is an innovative approach to natural wave simulation in

Modern Aquaria – one that forefronts unparalleled adjustability and adaptability.

    A COMPLETE FLOW SOLUTION

Unlike other wave simulation devices, the Vertex™ Mocean 2000 is uniquely capable of full 360° water dispersion

at different speed settings, readily eliminating mono-directional water movement. The subsequent irregular flow

freely decreases dead spots, mimics natural environmental flow patterns while improving the water quality and

    health of the captive biome.

Hopefully the support on these will be better than the original. What a fiasco that was!
