There’s been a lot of hype lately on the new cone based skimmer designs, but without ever actually using one for an extended period of time it is difficult to really see what the claims and excitement are all about. Currently no skimmer on the market is “hotter” than ATB and just yesterday GBD received an ATB External Small Cone skimmer to run on the glassbox.
It will be interesting to see how this skimmer compares to the numerous ones I have used in the past. I am still very fond of down draft skimmers and from what I have seen only cones can compare in terms of foam head (with less turbulence I might add). We will do our best to share our experiences with this ATB model, if you have any specific questions feel free to ask.
There are some significant changes that are in the works for the glassbox, but if I am able to receive the necessary plumbing parts in time… it may be possible to have it up and running by this weekend. More updates and a full review are to come as the skimmer breaks in. A big thanks to Victor @ ATB USA for getting this sent out ASAP.
