Aqua Driver Skim CleanIs this the first Aqua Driver Skim Clean on an ATB Skimmer? It’s a question that’s difficult to justify given the distribution of both products, but it is a rare site–particularly in the U.S.. You may recall that initial sale of the SkimCleans in the States was tied to Bubble King Skimmers only, however, that was quickly changed and aligned with European distribution making them universal and available on a standalone basis for any skimmer.

So what’s the new red tubing within the collection cup? That’s a new wash down system that has been added to keep the skimmate holding area clean and help prevent build up. The video below shows the full unit in action. [See the original Skim Clean video here.]

The pricey product is not for everyone, but users do state continued performance between cup cleanings. With the addition of a waste collector the cleaning of the collection cup could be pushed off indefinitely  significantly delayed. Price aside, do you believe the SkimClean will increase performance? For us at GBD that’s the real question. Many aquarists spend exponentially more on protein skimmers for marginally better performance, is this no different?

    Pfft @ Richard

Let's be honest with ourselves here man, you're getting one cause you know it's AWESOME.
  • I plan on using one just to keep maintenance that much simpler

This would NEVER be something I could afford. However, that being said, I think it's a fantastic idea. I know cleaning my skim cup is a big hassle and I do it WAY less than I should. I have no doubt at all that for my skimmer, it works exponentially better once it is cleaned, but it's a big cup and I always struggle to find a brush that works well with it, so now the one I have is all beaten up and doesn't work very well at all. If this was an affordable product, I'd purchase one in a minute.
  • @Tatu, I have not heard any complaints. Give me some time and I'll let you know ;)
  • @Jon - Easy now. Proline are the exclusive NA distributors of AquaDriver. The decision was in no way based on your comment--which I do remember.

Given your known work and collaboration with another competing brand (ATB) it's easy to see why Proline acted the way they did. Let's be frank. You may have had the best intentions, but such a post will never be seen as independent or beneficial.

Nick just get one you know you want one:)
  • Does anyone know how well this device works in the long run? I've seen similar equipment on large Sander Helgoland skimmers and was not impressed…

And to think, when I asked in the proline forum on some other website if they would carry other Aquadriver products, or 'why not the universals' instead of just the 'Royal Exclusiv' branded ones they had my post deleted. Looks like at least Carsten was reading. Good job. It looks great!
