Is this the first Aqua Driver Skim Clean on an ATB Skimmer? It’s a question that’s difficult to justify given the distribution of both products, but it is a rare site–particularly in the U.S.. You may recall that initial sale of the SkimCleans in the States was tied to Bubble King Skimmers only, however, that was quickly changed and aligned with European distribution making them universal and available on a standalone basis for any skimmer.
So what’s the new red tubing within the collection cup? That’s a new wash down system that has been added to keep the skimmate holding area clean and help prevent build up. The video below shows the full unit in action. [See the original Skim Clean video here.]
The pricey product is not for everyone, but users do state continued performance between cup cleanings. With the addition of a waste collector the cleaning of the collection cup could be pushed off indefinitely significantly delayed. Price aside, do you believe the SkimClean will increase performance? For us at GBD that’s the real question. Many aquarists spend exponentially more on protein skimmers for marginally better performance, is this no different?
