Blue Zoo Aquatics, who has teamed up with Dave Palmer and Pacific Aqua Farms, recently got in the scarcely seen Mango Angelfish (Centropyge shepardi). This is the first specimen to pop up in the United States in many years making C. shepardi a mysterious and often under appreciated fish by aquarists. That said, don’t be surprised if Shepards become more attainable in the future.
There is some debate if the fish is indeed a true Shepardi (most likely a waif) or a C. loricula x C. ferrugata hybrid. Either way it’s unique, see for yourself here. The fish retailed for $199 and was purchased by a personal friend who also picked up the rarely seen Cortez Angel (Pomacanthus zonipectus) that BZ had sitting in their WYSIWYG Collector’s Choice section. Bravo to BlueZoo for picking up these oddballs.
