Schunk Modultechnik is looking to expand and pentrate into the U.S. market with their Tritron Eco Brushless DC Pumps. However, we may not see them marketed under the Schunk name in North America. We’ve been informed by someone close to the matter that Schunk will be rolling out a new branding effort under the name— Abyz for the N.A. market. We attempted to contact Schunk about this name change, but have yet to hear back from them. I will also add that we have not seen any public confirmation regarding the Abyz change.
Should Abyz come to fruition, 4 different pumps are thought to be offered in North America, two of which are skimmer pumps, along with a controller that has the ability to control and manipulate up to 8 Tritron pumps for a symphony of chaotic flow.
- 16,000 l/h – 4,200 gph
- 24,000 l/h – 6,340 gph
- 3,5000 lph skimmer pump
- 6,000 lph skimmer pump
In addition to these standard pumps, others have been independently developing their own improvements to their DC motor blocks. Torsten Luther of Korallenwelt has been working with the Schunk DC pump and has developed a custom flow device for large, public sized aquaria. The pump shown below is capable of 160,000 l/h (42,200 gph) with a thrust of 4 m/s at just 140 watts! See more on these pump developments at Korallenwelt.
And then there is this monster.
Shunk / Abyz will face some stiff competition; Royal Exclusiv already has their Red Dragon II DC Pump and another well known brand is finalizing the details of their own brushless DC pump that will soon be released in the U.S..
