Schunk Module Technik is new to the aquarium industry, but has vast experience making DC motors; namely electronic motors for automobiles. After a whirlwind of events Schunk is offering these brush less DC pumps direct to the aquarium industry under the Triton name.
As you will notice the original RD2 by Royal Exclusiv looks eerily similar. It is no secret that Klaus and RE originally teamed up with Schunk to develop this DC pump. However GBD has been told by party closely related the product’s development, that Royal Exclusiv is now working with another company to finalize the RD2s that are currently for sale. Currently there are no ties between Schunk and Royal Exclusiv. Schunk also states these pumps are being made in Germany.
Take a look at this video showing two Triton 420s and one Triton 215 prototype serve as one messy water fountain. Like the RD2, the closed loop simulations are virtually endless. Currently the Triton 420 Eco retails for €1,500 or $1,990 USD. This model is capable of pushing 21,000lph (5,500gph) at 400ws with a max head of 9.5m. The smaller Triton 215 is not yet priced, but consumes 80w and is being targetd for the skimmer crowd. Under normal operation it can push 16,000lph (4,200gph), but as a NW we are told air pull numbers are near 3,500LPH at ~30w of electric consumption.
The Triton Master shown above is a “master controller” than can control multiple triton pumps (up to
and vary the flow accordingly. It features a light sensor and night mode, as well as 3 minute feed mode.
There is a chance that a similar pump will make it’s way over here to the U.S. but most likely under a different name. For more photos of these pumps, head over to the Meerwasserforum.

I question why this company would all of a sudden be jumping into the aquarium industry. I have my theories though!
