Dr. John E. Randall has described roughly 600 new species of marine fish–making him the father of reef-fish ichthyology. Thankfully his numerous papers can be found through searches like Google Scholar (and hopefully soon DeepDyve). If it’s eye candy that you’re after the Bishop Museum has an impressive gallery of nearly all of Jack’s fish! Most holotype or paratype specimens can be found here like the illusive Apolemichthys guezei or the San Felix endemic Amphichaetodon melbae.
Nothing to set off the weekend right with some eye candy. Search by the family, genus or species–find the full gallery here: John E. Randall’s Fish Photos.
