The new Vertex Media Reactors are an extremely well constructed alternative to media bags, or smaller GFO reactors. If you are still running phosphate absorbing media in a media bag, you’ll be shocked at the performance difference that a fluidized media reactor like this Vertex unit can provide. The Vertex models come in two sizes, the UF-15 and UF-20–the number corresponds to their media chamber’s height.
These are not ground breaking, but do offer some nice features for carbon and granular ferric oxide / hydroxide users (also known as GFO, or RowaPhos).
The red screw top makes media replacement simple, and the thick acrylic construction and complete plumbing parts makes it easier to perform regular maintenance. As shown in the photos a ball valve, union, and hose barb come with each unit. These parts make installation and media changes much more simple.
The foot print for both models measures in at 5″x5″ with a tube diameter of 4″. The UF-15 has a total height of 19″ and commands a price of $110. The UF-20 has an overall height of 23.5″ and will run you $125. These reactors are now available at retailers.
