Aqua Driver Skim Clean

AquaDriver has created a slight modification to the SkimClean hydromechanical cleaner to expand its reach to the smaller realms of reef aquaria. Now any skimmer with a neck greater than an inside diameter of 50mm (~1.96″) can be cleaned via AquaDriver’s hydromechanical creations.

We spoke with AquaDriver mastermind Carsten Prang regarding this change and have been informed the actual motor and design have not changed. Rather a smaller wiper and adjustment has been utilized to fit the growing demand for smaller aquariums and their smaller protein skimmers. The new wipers will be available for the Skim Clean models 160-250 depending on the ID neck of the desired skimmer. Remember that these wet-neck-skimmer-cleaners are now available for all models. We may need to try one out ourselves.

Expect to see these hit the US in 3-4 weeks. Be sure to check out our sponsors Premium Aquatics and Salty Supply when these new toys land.

Not sure what exactly a SkimClean is? You’re not alone. Check out the video below and our previous coverage here.

  • @AgentSPS, I'd feel like it would almost have too.

I wonder what'd happen if you put a scoop on one of these, or ran it at an angle, seems like it could force bubbles over, acting somewhat like a wet skim.

I wonder if having the wiper and parts in the neck of the skimmer affects the skimming performance.
  • Looks nice but i dont think i would ever use one.
  • Agree with Nicholas, $160-250, no way. Seems like a cool $20-30 gadget. In fact, I think I might go and buy a little rubber 'wiper' for cleaning my skimmer manually.

    Great site, admin.

Great idea, but SOOOO expensive for basically just a time/effort saver. Just a little automation, not anything that I can see warranting spending that kind of money. Gotta have the bucks for one of those-they are cool though, don't get me wrong.
