I know about time… I picked up a Nikon D40x. I haven’t used a SLR in ages, but it feels good to have one in my hands again. I was originally going to go for the D80 or the video enabled D90, but got a deal on a brand new in box D40x from a friend that was too good to pass up. The D40x is plenty camera for me, and the money I saved I can put towards some nice glass.

The D40x is nearly identical to the D60. When searching out prices to compare  Amazon had the best I could find, with free shipping to boot. I would feel safe with Amazon & their customer support, but be careful of “deals” online. If it’s too good to be true, it likely is.

I’ve been playing around with it the past few days and getting comfortable with the controls. This is my first Nikon, but it has been easy to learn and fun to shoot with. I have to dig out the old tripod for some better shots, but I have been very pleased so far. Here’s a shot from early this morning with only one deep blue Superkaru spotlight on in the back (…think ~50K color temperature). For how inexpensive this camera is, the low light shooting has been pretty good.

I’ll snap some better ones with all the lights on in the coming days. In the meantime, here are a few sites to check out:
