There were 2 frags of this chalice sold at MACNA for $1500 a piece. So I do not believe it was rigged, I just think some people are crazy.

I have to agree with Matt and cp on this one. While it’s definitely not something I’d ever do, it certainly impacts my world and my aquarium keeping minimally at best. Buy from those you trust, make your own decisions on what is beautiful and interesting and run you own hobby…don’t let the hobby world run you. In the end, all the decisions are your own.

Cyanide caught fish and illegal coral smuggling might better represent the worst parts of the aquarium hobby than someone paying a lot of money for a coral. Just my 2 cents…

If the winner is near the seller, I’m sure that the savings on the cost of shipping figured into the bid. =)

Really, we’re surprised that someone spent a lot of money for his/her hobby or business? As long as they’re not using my money (or bailout money), I forgive. I’m sure the international tribunal will convene and declare this another humdrum case of human nature.

I have to admit, that the craze has gone too far. Paying 2000 USD for at <1 inch frag is absolutely stupid.

In Denmark we had the same craze for rics last year paying up to 100 USD for one head.

I think its lame and cannot believe that reefers let it go so far!
