GBD Visits LiveAquaria – Part 2, Office Reef Tanks

Everyday we can enjoy the eye-candy that LiveAquaria provides in their Diver’s Den section. What we aren’t privy to is the beautiful aquariums that reside in Kevin Kohen’s office. Here he has some amazing animals spread throughout a mixed reef, SPS reef,  and nano reef. In addition to these aquariums, the Amphiprion mccullochi rearing tank resides here–which provided me with a glimpse of Mcculloch metamorphosis.

Starting on the smaller side, Kevin’s nano had some very interesting fish. It’s not everyday that you find 1″ Mccullochi clownfish, a Candy Basslet (Liopropoma carmabi) and Magnificent Shrimp gobies (Flabelligobius sp. 1) together in one aquarium! Unfortunately the Candy Basslet was in a very reclusive mood, however the Flabelligobius were on full display. These fish are quite small, but absolutely beautiful and entertaining.

Flabelligobius-sp1

This Flabelligobius pair is actually part of a trio. The unseen third party being a pistol shrimp that is hard at work underneath the substrate. These striking “sailfin gobies” come from Cebu. LiveAquaria then pairs them, with each other and with pistols.

The two tanks in Kevin’s office that really catch your eye are the mixed reef and sps reef displays. The mixed reef c reflects the Fish Monger’s passion for Wrasses, while the SPS reef shows off LiveAquaria’s knack for growing coral. There are some very nice captive propagated frags that will be rolling out from LA in the near future…

More rare animals to come in Part 3

I keep thinking of how awesome it would be to have a world class fish and coral selection at my finger tips when stocking my office aquarium. I can't wait to see the rest of the pics.

Where is the video of the nano? Hopefully part 3!
