JNS Aquaria, a reef aquarium equipment manufacturer from Taiwan, has unveiled their latest product line–the JNS Shark series of cone protein skimmers. These foam fractionators have taken design cues from a few brands, and are very reminiscent of the Bubble King Supermarin and the Reef Octopus Hurricone. Nonetheless this is a new style for JNS that shows promise as a serious performer. In the past JNS skimmers have been available in the U.S. under the Warner Marine label–no word if this will continue with the new Shark series, seeing as WM has their full cone skimmer already on the market. In Europe these are sold under a myriad of different names, with the most popular being the import house Terra Nova.
JNS Shark 3 in action
Shown in the top photo are the two models currently available; the SK-3 at left and SK-2 at right. Both models utilize the often ignored Sicce Syncra pump. These pumps, which are very similar to the Tunze Silence, have just begun to ship out en masse from the Italian manufacturer. We suspect they will become a popular alternative for skimmer and flow applications.
In the past the weakest part of JNS / WM skimmers were the Sedra pumps they used. Despite posting good numbers, the loud noise nullified any real pros that the inexpensive pumps brought to the table. The Sicce Syncra is a much needed improvement. Another improvement on the Shark Skimmer line is the JNS “Quick Precise” adjustment valve shown off in the video.

JNS Shark 2 (SK-2, In sump 1500)

So maybe extending the shark theme to the Sicce pump’s holder is a bit over the top…. but hats off to JNS for doing something different and memorable. They have a theme and they’re sticking to it. Electric yellow tubing included free of charge…
