The Good: Part of the $167Million that the NOAA received in stimulus money will be going towards Florida to create jobs via reef restoration and coral nursery projects. Due to the revenue generated from tourists, federal officials are seeing Florida’s  reefs as a worthwhile cause. I wish we were to the point that they should be saved on their own merit, but at least favorable action is being taken.

The Bad: A handful of fish stores are up for sale in Florida, and now another got burned–literally. It is being reported that Crystal Reef Aquariums store in North Palm Beach had a fire around 2:30AM this morning. We wish our best to the owners and staff.

That’s sad…I REALLY hope anyone or thing alive pulled through okay. Nothing more horrible than being completely trapped in a fire. My neighbor across the street’s house burned down last year and that’s the first time I’d ever experienced a fire that completely destroys something and it was REALLY scary. Something you can’t imagine until you are really a part of it in some way. Certainly changes how you feel about stuff, without a doubt. The whole neighborhood was in shock and grown men were crying just at the prospect of that devastation.
