    Some recent conversations with Floridian reefers has brought up the aquarium downturn that has hit the Florida stores hard. Some established and growing LFS are thriving in this environment… but others are hurting hard and suffering from trickling cash flow and high overhead.

    We did a quick search on the website BizBuySell (Not the most thorough research and not a place I would personally buy a business) 12 hits came up for ‘Aquarium‘, with half of those in Florida. (My favorite is the one that claims their LFS business is a cash cow!) We spoke with GBD Sponsor Salty Supply who is thankfully doing well, and they confirmed that Florida LFS have taken a hit with 3 nearby stores up for sale.

    To add to the non-Florida store sales the websites JustRareFish and Coral Dynamics are also for sale.

      I’d say this is the case in MD too. I no longer have a decent LFS within an hour of my house. The one that was my staple LFS has degraded so badly that it’s only a tiny step up from like a Petsmart or Petco now. The other is a little farther and decent, but it’s part of a pet store too and is just tiny. They do really well with the room they have, but it’s just not big enough. Living in the Baltimore Metro area, this should not be the case, but sadly, it is. Hard to support your LFS when there is none anymore.

      Does ANYBODY know where I can buy some “Pomacea maculata” (LARGE (baseball sized) Apple Snails. Also known as “Cana”, I believe.)?
