Watch as these men and women propagate corals and then re-seed the wild reefs in an effort to restore them to their former glory. (Note the vibrant colors and rapid growth!) This is a pilot project currently underway, that is being highlighted by BBC in the documentary series “South pacific”. The film was made under the guidance of Jonathan Clay who was grateful enough to share this clip to the world.

      I like the way they are using plastic trestles, in the Salomons we used metal lath trestle that ended up being astronomically expensive to import and short lived (a few years). I don’t know about that handaxe/nailpuller the diver was using to harvest, we used a hammer and chisel, much more effective, and less bruised hands. the site selection is perfect.

      Inspiring video. Shame they had to let it get trashed first but never mind, at least this is a positive response.

      Could these countries not support more of this by selling a proportion of the maricultured coral to the aquarium hobby? SPS coral grows like weed in the right conditions.

      I’d love to see something similar with LPS and rarer coralmorphs and anemones. Their selective harvest is really worrying me at the moment.
