If you’re looking to get your hands on one of the recently collected deep water Chromis flavicauda or the infamous Liopropoma carmabi, LiveAquaria’s Diver’s Den will have one of each up tonight for an Atlantic rare fish duet.
Not to be confused with the Yellow Tail Damsel (Chrysiptera parasema), Chromis flavicauda is rarely seen in the trade. This is primarily due to its limited range (Brasil and Bermuda) and the depth that it’s found 50m+. It is commonly called the Cobalt Chromis or the Flashing Chromis for its ability to flash various intensities of blue. These have been selling ~$200USD, financially separating them quite far away from the hobby staple Chromis viridis. [See more on oddball Chromis species like recently discovered Chromis abyssus].
The Candy Basslet (Liopropoma carmabi). It’s stunning and is one of the most vibrant aquarium specimens with a price tag to reflect that. $800 has been the going rate for these reclusive deep water beauties. Should you pull the trigger, don’t be surprised by their shy nature and provide ample caves and cover. It can take weeks to months for these shy basslets to become comfortable with tank mates and onlookers.
Expect these guys tonight on Diver’s Den.
