Over the past year it seems niche, customized salt mixes are the hot product to have. ESV has joined this trend with their new synthetic salt mix, called the B-Ionic Seawater System. The system comes in 25g, 50g and 200g sizes and at 34ppt it boasts some attractive parameters:
- 450ppm Calcium
- 9 dkh Alkalinity
- 1400 ppm Magnesium
The B-ionic Salt mix is a multi-part blend consisting of 4 parts– two dry mixes and two liquid solutions. The dry mixes consists of high purity, dry Sodium Chloride and Magnesium Sulfate. While the highly concentrated solutions consist of pre-dissolved trace elements, calcium and carbonates. ESV states that provided the base RO water is properly oxygenated, this new salt mix can be added to the aquarium in 10 minutes. I wouldn’t personally advise this, but it attests to the quick mixing ability of the salt mix.
We just switched up to my time tested favorite Tropic Marin, but we may need to give this a shot–if the parameter values are within the listed range, it contains near NSW trace element profiles and mixes quickly… it could be worth the time to mix and measure the B-Ionic Seawater System. This 4-part mix will also allow some fine tuning to your parameter preferences.
This control does come at a higher cost than other synthetic salt mixes. Premium Aquatics currently has the 50 gallon mix size is currently retailed for just shy of $30, with the 100g for $75.
