ATB has made some significant cosmetic changes to their Econo 840 cone skimmer, being called the 840 v1.5. The new design distinguishes itself from the ATB line up with a seamless molded cone body, polished CNC work, skimmate drain valve, and removable base. The molded cone body is attached to the PVC base with screws, allowing removable and complete access to the bubble plate and inner chamber for cleaning.

This is just the second ATB cone skimmer to feature the molded body, the first being the HOB Multi Use Cone. These changes offer no performance upgrades over the previous 840 line… it just looks a bit better.

Stats:

  • Footprint: 8″ x 14″  footprint
    • 8″ Base Diameter
  • Height: 21″ (0.5″+ needed for cup removal)
  • Pump: Sicce PSK 2500 based Mini Airstar
    • 17-21w (25+ scfh) depending on pinwheel / mesh used

There has  been confusion over the white color that the majority of the new 840 v1.5s  are sporting. All ATB Skimmers are available in white upon special request. The stock ATB colors are red in the USA. If you fancy white, let them know before you pull the trigger.

  • @Chris, Yes the bubble plate is removable for complete cleaning.

Conscious or not, aesthetics always matter to a degree. For these premium products it will always be a part of the product and price tag. The good news is there is ample competition among skimmer manufacturers, giving us consumers plenty of innovation and choices.

    WOW
    it's look like a M$ skimmer
I didn't see screw in the Bubble plate,is it a removable?

generally speaking, its looks likes we are in skimmermania , skimmer manufactures gives too much attention making the skimmers prettier, while the most important thing is the performance, reliability & maintainability.
let's not forget the skimmer isn't a furniture - it's just another filter under the cabin.

@ Craig - i think they are available now. Shoot me an email to remind me and I'll get you Victor's number whenever you are ready to join the ATB club ;)

No, the white is not an upcharge. Technically, the white is less expensive material than the red.

OK...that is the "sexiest" looking skimmer I've ever seen (I know, do looks 'DO" matter!!! LOL)
Hopefully the White Version is not considered an upcharge...
Is there an ETA for this new design?
  • These are beautiful. I would say that there is arguably a performance upgrade as well, since a removable baseplate makes cleaning infinitely easier, which means you do it more frequently, which leads to better performance.
