    Vanity Fair : Don Flood

Just ask Sumner Redstone, shown here standing in front of one of his massive display tanks. The 85yo Viacom CEO turns out to be a big time fish collector! Back in 2007 he was worth an estimated 7.6 Billion, but has since taken some substantial hits… Nonetheless he has a fish collection most would envy: Chaetodon tinkeriChaetodon wiebeli and Centropyge interruptus to name a few.

    Via CNN in 2005:

“When people around Viacom say, “Sumner’s gone fishing,” they don’t mean that he has escaped with a fly-casting rod to a mountain stream. No, they mean Redstone has asked a driver to take him down the hill to visit aquarium stores all around Los Angeles in search of rare tropical fish. He owns about 200 of the creatures, which he keeps in five tanks–three for fish, one for coral, and one for sea horses, as well as a hospital tank for fish in need of medical treatment.

This is no casual hobby. Redstone knows the names of all the fish, studies their habits, and grows attached to them…His specialty is angelfish.”

This is definitely a hobby where having tons of money doesn’t hurt.

The CEO at my old company was worth 100s of millions and he was a huge saltwater fish collector too (non reef). He had 1000 gallon tanks in all of his homes. That photo is cool.

I wonder if he’s actively involved in caring for the tanks. Doubtful, but interesting to know if he’s planning his tanks and carrying around buckets of saltwater for waterchanges (I’m kidding, of course)!
