Kentpapa is a talented aquarist residing in the Kansai region of Japan. You may have seen photo’s of this beautiful aquarium on our site before. We feel the color choice, placement and fish selection are top notch.
He told us his dream is to have a beautiful aquarium with colorful SPS and many fish. We feel he has accomplished this, but he is always looking to improve.
Kentpapa says he is no expert. He relies on regular maintenance including weekly 25% water changes and powerful lighting to create what he visualizes in his mind. It certainly seems to work, and the coloration of his Acropora’s rivals those anywhere.
Here is some basic information on his system:
- 60″ L x 36″ D x 20″ H, Glass Eurobraced Aquarium
- Precision Marine Bullet Protein Skimmer with PM Waste Collector
- MJ500 Eco Mod
- Wavy-Sea and SeaSwirl + Eductors
- Dual Chamber Calcium Reactor
- RedSea Aquazone Ozone Unit
- (2) MT 250 250w DE Metal Halides
- (9) 150w Metal Halide Spotlights
- (1) Dual Blue LED Spot
The spotlights allow him to find just the right intensity and color temperature for each coral in his system, but he does admit they also make his tank showy. Nothing wrong with that.
The first thing that caught our attention is the fish. Here are some highlights of the stocking list:
- Pair of Bandit Angels (Apolemichthys arcuatus)
- Pair of Venustus Angels (Paracentropyge venustus)
- Majestic Angel (Euxiphipops navarchus)
- Joculator Angel (Centropyge joculator)
- Regal Angel (Pygoplites dicanthus)
- Goldflake Angel (Apolemichthys xanthopunctatus)
- Swalesi Basslet (Liopropoma swalesi)
In addition to a beautiful fish line up, the invert stocking is quite unique. The variety of shrimp, hermit crabs, and other oddities makes you take a second look, see below.
Unfortunately we do not speak Japanese. Our discussions with Kentpapa are thanks to translations by a well known Japanese aquarist Tetsuo.
Tetsuo uses Zeovit, which is not very popular there. Like here in the States, Carbon dosing is becoming more widely used in Japan. In fact, Kentpapa has used BioDigest with good results.
We would like to say thank you to Kentpapa and Tetsou for taking the time and effort to communicate with us and giving us permission to use their photos. To learn more we encourage you to check out their websites. Even if you cannot read Japanese, the photos alone are well worth it.
