Here’s a photo we took today… they thought they were deserving of some more food, and we obliged. The male clown didn’t make it in, but all the rest are there.
Unfortunately Marie, the C.Collare, did not make it. She passed overnight a few days ago. We were somewhat surprised as she started eating well, but at the same time she was banged up with some lympho. She was a great fish, and if we can find some healthy specimens we will not hesitate to get them.

Sorry to hear about the Collare. On the bright side, glad to hear the declivis is doing well.

Thanks… the declivis couldn’t be doing better. He’s like a puppy. Think great dane hanging out with some yorkies. He bumps into other fish and eats anything added to the tank…

Gorgeous tank! How long have you used VSV? Do you like the results? I am tempted to go that route but am afraid to try for fear of being unable to go back if it does not work out well.

Thanks for stopping by. We’ve used VSV for over 2 years now. We’ve taken some breaks here and there, to let thing stabilize after changes, but we do like the results. If you decide to stop, we have not experienced any repercussions in doing so.
We’ve had many questions on the subject, so we’ll be posting a write up on starting to use VSV. e.g. initial mixture, dosing, signs to look out for etc.

guess i commented too quick but you have a really nice tank! it’s similar to mine. mine is 36×30x24 rimless starphire also.
do you find you get enough light penetration to the sand? i’m using a 400watter and found that 20k bulbs didn’t work as well. so i’m down to 10K bulbs now.

We use an old fuji point and shoot, it’s a really poor camera hence the poor photos. Occasionally we get lucky.
To answer your next question we use two 150MH halides, they are focused (spot lights) and give us great growth and color even on the bottom ( we dont not use sand).
400w MH’s should have no problem penetrating to the bottom. Our favorite 400 bulbs are the XM20k and Radium 20k. I would look at your reflectors and nutrient levels. 20K’s give great colors and if you like the blue look it may be worth upgrading reflectors to Lumenbrights, LumenArcs, or LumenMaxs.
