Friend and local reefer Mike Clifford stopped over late last night to snap some underwater shots of the glassbox. He’s headed over to Thailand in a couple weeks and he picked up a Canonn G9 with Ikelite Underwater Housing and Inon Wide Angle Lens for his dives while there. Anxious to try it out, he swung by and these are the results. Click all photos to enlarge.
The first image shows our Acropora tortuosa growing near Acropora nana. The colors are popping off the page thanks to a blue Superkaru spotlight and a Red LED supplement.
Below is a top down shot of a beautiful Staghorn type Acropora that originally came as a brown out. Very similar to the “Lime in the Sky”. Seriatopora hystrix peeks out lower on the rock.
A bit washed out, but shows the rear rock well. This is the brightest green Bali Slimer (Acropora youngei) I’ve come across!
Speaking of bright green, this is our neon Acropora austera. I originally acquired this piece from Mike. It glows and grows even under low light.
On our large Montipora capricornis the shadow cast from the Ikelite housing makes the different spotlights and spectrums easily visible.
This is one aggressive and large Cleaner Shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis). He startled Mike a few times by jumping on his arms nipping him while taking shots. A nip doesn’t sound like much, but this guy can inflict some painful ones.
The Tricolor Acropora nana.
Arguably my favorite coral in the tank, Acropora horrida. But that may soon change as the coral mounted on the plug, Acropora rambleri grows out. This rare deepwater coral has deepend in color and is beginning to show purple and green hues.
Lastly a wide angle full tank shot.
