as i said the previous post, we have not had much interest in the nano reef. colors have been fading, and bubble algae growing…yes we have not been giving it as much attention as before, but that still did not add up to the fading and algae growth we were seeing.
… but now we know why. with the extreme cold here in chicago and the exposed piping in our loft it’s common to get some slight condensation. this was a bit more than slight and was dripping in our aquarium! the water was going through some insulation on a misc. pipe, falling onto the a/c ducting and then dripping in. i’m sure there’s plenty of iron and other metals. i’ll snap a pic later in the day to show the some of the “water damage” on the piping.
we’ve fixed that and hope that the colors will come back. we may run some gfo in the MCE6oo to help remove some heavy metals.
