Sojourn | Art & Design inspired by the Reefs

To us there appears to be a lack of art work of, or inspired by, marine life. Perhaps it’s because Mother Nature’s aquatic animals are difficult to represent as we see them, but there has to be some stuff out there. Not happy with our initial google image results we went on a hunt to seek out art work that fits one of two criteria:

  •  Beautiful and intriguing
  • We would want in our living room

… And the hunt began.

Just last week I began playing with Adobe Illustrator. It took sometime to learn the vector path combinations, but I am starting to get the hang of it. Here’s a partially completed vector image I made of our C. declivis. A friend has asked for a large print and we’ve obliged.

We came across this oil painting clearly inspired by the infamous CPFarm Japanese Reef. We’d much rather have the real thing, but still beautiful nonetheless.

The face painting below  is unique and funny in its own right.

This split painting showing a school of Falcula Butterflies is quite nice.

Some fish inspired graffiti anyone?

Acrylic on Canvas, arial view of a reef. An abstract view and the colors are beautiful.

And lastly… Joan Miro’s well known “Singing Fish”

These are some of the diverse and unique works we found. If you have any yourself… photos, paintings, prints, sketches, whatever it may be feel free to share.

To leave a photo in the comments section, post the URL to the image file and we will edit the comment so the photo appears.

  • L,

Post a link and I'll edit the comment. Not sure why it didn't show? Thanks for the heads up Joanie...
  • If you like glass, Dale Chihuly's work is nothing short of spectacular. One display in an exhibit I saw resembled a bed of Tridacna, probably 10' long.
