We wrote in our previous coverage of the Supermarin 300 that it would be utilizing two pumps, in a “Master-Slave” format. You can see the two pumps, but where’s the DC? At the time of the previous post, Klaus did say it would utilize a DC powered pump as well as the Mini Red Dragon “Slave” Pump. Not seeing the DC pump is a bit of a let down. Kits will be made allowing the DC Red Dragon to fit on existing BK models. It also sounds as though an even smaller DC pump will be made? We do not know why the DC RD is not utilized on this model, but we hear they are “coming soon”.
Here’s some info direct from Proline the N.A. Distributor of Royal Exclusiv, via their RC forum.
“SM 300 is the latest model of Bubble king skimmers, utilizing two Red Dragon pumps. The body is made of 300mm (11 ¾”) Diameter Cast Acrylic & the height of the skimmer is 600mm (23 5/8″).Base plate is 330mm (13″), the actual width by length including the riser pipe is 16″x 13″. Depending on which pump is mounted on which side, the base dimensions will be:
23 7/8″ x 20 7/8″ Or 21″ 7/8″ x 24 3/8″
Main Pump: RD2000 2000lph Air / 1000 – 4000lph Water / 35-45 W
Secondary Pump: Mini RD 1500 1600lph Air / 2000lph Water / 38 W
Depending on the dual pump settings, the SM300 will draw from 3000lph to 3600lph of Air.”
One unique feature on this new model, is the ozone port on the Red Dragon 2000 and smaller Mini Red Dragon 1500 pump. Each has a small ozone bypass valve as well as it’s own Silencer. Also quite obvious on this new Mini’s enlarged volute allowing 1600lph of air.
We got photo’s a few months ago of what looks to be the new Bubble King Mini 2 showing the new pump. Just recently there was talk of the Mini 180 and 200 receiving improved pumps. We’d venture a guess that these are it.
Overall, it appears to be another fine skimmer from Royal Exclusiv. The DC pump does leave us wanting a bit more, but then you take a look at the welded joints, ozone port, and CNC’d parts and you slowly begin to forget about. If you want one of these, contact your local dealer for Pre-Orders, they should be arriving soon. Retail is not cheap at $2050, but if you pre-order they are selling for $1950.
Sticking with their normal naming, the SM 300 is 300 mm wide. Meaning the new Skim Clean Self Cleaning Head (SCH) can be used. These are not cheap either and will cost you $1250 for the 300 model.
