Reef Geek | New Dimmable T5 Retro Prototype

At last weekend’s Reef-A-Palooza, Reef Geek (RG) displayed their own prototype T5 retrofit with dimming abilities. Word is there will be two options: a true retrofit or a premade readyfit “fixture”. It will be actively cooled and 100% dimmable! Expect the Retrofit to be available in January or February with the Readyfit coming shortly thereafter.  [...]

At right is the Reef Geek dimming controller. It looks awfully similar to the Aqua Illumination (AI) controller. With RG being the AI distributor, I would not be surprised if Greg has been working with Chris at AI to get this out on the market. Reef Geek has said they hope to make this T5 unit as controllable as the AI LED.

Dimming is nothing new, in fact Digital Addressed Lighting Interface (DALI) has been around for awhile with the hobby slow to adopt it. That said, Reef Geek’s Retro is completely controllable on separate channels and programmable, meaning settings can be saved. So yes, you could program the mini controller for sunrise and sunset simulations. A very nice addition to energy efficient T5s.

A big thanks to Tucker Parris for the photos.

I just bought t5s from ReefGeek. Wish I’d of had a little more time and could’ve gotten these.

Probably going to be rather pricey I’d imagine.

Sorry to hear Richie. There’s no shame in having non dimmable lights ;)

Still no ETA or price. I don’t imagine they will be cheap…
