Seachem was the Venue Sponsor of this years MACNA and their large display showed it. They did have plenty of our favorite salt on hand… and the full line up of Aquavitro products.

They were giving away containers of their new food NutriDiet. I think the food is great for larger carnivores, but our fish did not care for it.

Rod was there showing his famous Rod’s food and new blends. We spent most of Saturday night up in the Sundial Room having drinks and talking with Rod. We both have such different approaches to the hobby, but with the same end goal. It’s great to hear that different perspective and have a conversation on different methods and techniques without any agendas or egos in the way. Too often in this hobby people think their way is the only way.

Congrats to Rod. He is local to us, and we’re happy to see his business become so successful. The Champion Lighting crew was there as well, there was never a dull moment…!

Coral Vue had a few interesting and new products at the event, like their new Laugna based Needle Wheel pump. Their volute had an interesting design, with an area jutting out by the output… we’ll be waiting to see some numbers on this.

They also showed off two new HOB models. One powered by an Octo pump and one by a Sicce PSK. Both included bubble plates, but the skimmer shown right had an interesting design. Run as an external there is not any real performance or control gains like there is with a normal external recirculating skimmer. However, by placing the pump outside it means a larger pump can be used, while still maintaining a small footprint and not sacrificing the reaction chamber. I wouldn’t doubt that a Laguna based HOB is far off.

CoralVue also showed a new LED light. We’ll have more on that and some the Patent issues facing the LED advancements in this hobby in an upcoming article.
