Oceans Reefs and Aquariums was there with a colorful zero edge aquarium. They were one of the many with captive bred Banggai Cardinals.
Keeping with the captive bred theme MOFIB had one of the most unique displays there, full of livestock that were donated to the silent auction by MOFIB breeders. The small captive bred Synchiropus splendidus and even smaller Synchiropus picturatus were shocking. They were no larger than 1/2″!

My Reef Creations showed their revamped line that for the first time includes needlewheel powered skimmers. Well known, for their becket powered foam fractionators these needlewheels looked like a step in the right direction as MRC freshens their image. Shown here is their largest Sequence powered needlewheel. They took the time to make the reaction chamber accessible via thumbscrews, but the current prototype has the bubble plate sealed. We’d like to see that removable for better cleaning.
Not to miss out on smaller tank crowds they have made two smaller versions of the model shown above that utilize a Pan World Needlewheel. MRC also revealed their new Ocean Force models that we previously have shown in Reef News.
After a too good to be true issue situation with a previous LED mogul screw in bulb, Coral Dynamics have created their own… But will it also suffer the same fate? Time will tell, but it was an obvious improvement as it ran head to head against a previous model marketed by another company. Par numbers were just shy of 1300 directly underneath the bulb and ~220 about 6″ under water.
Although the color temperature is better, it still leaves room for improvement. I would estimate the Kelvin to be 7,000K. LEDs are the future, it’s great to see innovations and new products like this.
