MACNA has been already been a memorable trip. I am staying at the Marriot Marquis, which is actually quite nice. It’s very interesting from an architectual perspective. Here’s a photo looking down immediately in front of my room.

Huge thanks to George Hollister for helping myself and friend Mike, attend Koji Wada’s Cocktail Party Presentation despite getting in late past registration time. If it were not for his kindness the trip would not have been the same.

Prior to Koji’s speech I got to talk briefly with Mr. Wada and my friend Tetsuo Otake. Mr. Wada’s presentation was top notch, and everyone at the event was extremely privelleged to see such rare fish and beautiful aquariums.

Charles Delbeek and Julian Sprung gave an entertaining introduction to Mr.Wada. The term electric bath tub will bring a new meaning to many. There were many fish that I had never seen or heard of before such as Liprogamma evides and the Golden Basslet that Mr. Wada had collected at an extreme depth.

I will have more on Mr. Wada’s presentation and many photos in a post to follow. Here you can see the large crowd and Mr.Wada on the left with Tetsuo on the right. It was great to meet and speak with both of these gentleman.

At the presentation Mr. Wada demonstrated the Superkaru Metal Halide Spotlights that are so popular in Japan. One lucky MACNA attendee purchased the unit from Mr. Wada. We will have more on these and some surprises to come… Here is a photo of Tetsuo explaining them in more detail to some attendees.

Some of the photos and videos from Mr. Wada’s presentation are unbelieveable. I also must say Tetsuo did a terrific job at interpreting the speech. More photos and details on the way as well as videos and some unique gifts direct from Japan!

I was that one lucky person who was able to purchase that spotlight, after a few years of looking for one!
I was also looking forward to Koji’s presentation, and he did not disappoint. I thought it was well put together, and very inspirational. Japan has some very dedicated aquarists to say the least. I even had the chance to hang out with Koji and his friends for a few hours later that night. He is one of the nicest guys you will meet. Definitely a memorable experience.
