Deltec had a well thought out display showing the majority of their equipment. The bright glow in the photo to the right is a frag tank where they had the MCE300 and MCE600 running. Marvin also had great deals on their new H2Ocean Salt. I am not sure how good a deal it would have been after shipping it back home, but they had it available nonetheless. I’d like to try it sometime, but given the cost difference and good results we’re having with ReefSalt it makes it hard to switch.
They also had this monster. I want to say it is an AP1004, but do not quote me on it. It was large. Very large, and had a Self Cleaning head. It will be interesting to see what moves Deltec makes in the near future. With the progress made in Skimmer pumps running multiple pumps creates added turbulence and electric draw. Not to mention the pure cost of all those Eheims. Perhaps they will finally release that prototype we showed you using AB 5000s and a custom volute…
Prodibio was there with a very large area. Their “display” tank unfortunately did not look so great, but with their reputation I think most took it as a fluke and not a representation of their product. Interestingly, they had a photo of Iwan Lasser’s beautiful aquarium with a “Powered by Prodibio”. While Iwan does use some Prodibio products he also uses a myriad of Zeovit additives and plenty of T5 tubes.
By the end of MACNA Prodibio was cleared out. Prodibio has unfortunately been branded as the “easy” carbon dosing method by many hobbyists. I overheard some conversations where people were talking to one another stating you can’t overdose because the ampoules are pre-measured and it will make your Acroporas neon colored… Au contraire mon frere.
Einstein Aquatic was there representing Elos. The booth was small, but showed the majority of their products. They had one tank on display, I believe a 120 or 120xl. The one product that caught my eye was the e power that we covered when released at InterZoo. Unfortunately when seeing the inside of the reflector I was a bit disappointed. Something else about the light didn’t sit well with me. I am not sure what it is yet, but I was hoping it to be a bit stronger in appearance. Maybe I am being a bit critical, but I expect much more from Elos than I do other manufacturers.
LiveAquaria was there with this 3 tier zero edge aquarium. Inside they had a beautiful 2″ Chevron Tang (Ctenochaetus hawaiiensis) and two Leaf Fish (Taenianotus triacanthus) in the very top with the Mangroves.
Fin’s Reef showed off the big guns with this massive H&S skimmer. It was being powered by (3) AB 5000s, however I was told an air meter was put on them and they were only drawing 850lph each. I cant confirm that, as I didn’t see it myself, but that would explain why the bottom 18″ are absent of air. Edit: Please read comment by Brian Plankis below. The construction on this model was top notch. It will be interesting to see which manufacturer comes out ahead with the AB 5000 pump, H&S or Deltec?
