About a month back we got an e-mail from a French hobbyists asking if we had a newsletter. In a true sense no, but we felt it would be good to share with you all what’s going on behind the scenes here at glassbox-design.com and what’s to come.

30% Humidity

You guys in the area know what kind of weather we’ve had lately. The other day it was 78F with only 30% humidity. That’s 70% less of what we usually have here in the city. That means you can walk three blocks without your t-shirt becoming a sweat sponge, instead of the normal single block.

With that in mind we’ll be running around Chicago enjoying this weather while it lasts, avoiding The Taste, and hopefully not on the computer much this week.

For those not progressing the sun damage of their skin this week, stuck in the office or indoors, or chained to your computer, we’ve got a couple posts lined up just for you.

Gravatar

So you may have noticed a new little photo showing up next to our comments, and the inverted “G” next to most of yours. This is a new little plug-in we added called Gravatar or Globally Recognized Avatar. Head over to Gravatar.com and upload your favorite photo and everytime you comment on a gravatar enabled blog it will automatically pull that respective avatar. Don’t worry about re-sizing, they make it very easy.

Sponsorship

Thanks to all of you, the site has quickly grown beyond anything we had expected. We’ve had inquiries regarding sponsorship of the site and we have recently made the decision to go this route.

We hope with sponsorships we will be able to expand and further grow glassbox-design.com, and offer improved content and information to all our readers.

For more info head over to the new Sponsorship Page. A special thanks to our loyal readers and commenters.

Fireworks

July 4th is quickly approaching. Be safe, don’t do anything stupid, and have fun.

the glassbox

We’ve been debating lately on adding sand, still up in the air. Sometimes I think it’s a great idea and other times I laugh at myself for even considering. We would replace the sand when needed to keep it fresh and white. We feel even with that replacement it would be less work than keeping the bottom glass completely clean. Here’s a photo from today.

Fish July

Cheers,

e&f

P.S. Flint’s birthday is on the 7th… Birthday beat down?

    “avoiding the taste”

lol. the taste, aka, goat rodeo. no thanks!

and sand…? whhhhat?! I like the idea of a layer thats just enough to cover and easily replaceable - is the way to go. Having had 3 - 4″ in my tanks, and hating it after a couple years, I’ll be doing a very thin layer in my next setup. I’d love to go BB, but the idea of adding one more surface to scrape coralline off is almost revolting. can’t get rid of it quickly enough.

    Happy b-day flint.

Avoiding ‘the taste?’ C-mon! What’s more attractive than grease dripping down your sweaty arm from a gigantic turkey leg? Live a little…LOL.

The Taste, it’s over! It got pretty rowdy down by us… sad to hear some of the events that took place on the 4th… :(

    Hey Nick,

Yeah I know what you mean. We keep going back and forth on the issue. We may give it a try and if it doesn’t work out just siphon it out. (Easier said then done)

    Thanks for the Birthday wishes!
