     Sfiligoi

Sfiligoi caught us by surprise. Here’s a company that you don’t hear too much about really improving upon their  previous line up.

First is the Zenith. I am not sure what makes this unit different then the Stealth T5+MH Combo, but it is called the Zenith. Well done nonetheless.

Then we have the all T5 Stealth… only this one is dimmable and comes with LED moon lights across the entire fixture.

Energy efficient glitter lines are coming your way soon with this T5 + LED combo Stealth.

But then what if you didn’t want T5′s at all. How about all LEDs in an attractive fixture, that can cover a good sized tank…

     Galaxy 2

The above photo looks pretty good. All individual LEDs with their own reflector, lenses and heatsinks. But if you look closer at the above and below photo you can see they are using what looks to be GU10 or MR16 bulbs. It’s likely just a metal skin with plenty of sockets wired to low voltage.

     Sfiligoi LED

The biggest advantage provided by Sfiligoi the large coverage. Meaning LEDs can be applicable on tanks with depth, without buying multiple fixtures.

We also see the individual red and green LEDs. LEDs do have limited spectrum, so a mix is important. But we are also hoping for control on the placement of each LED. This would allow spotlight and highlighting effects on individual corals. Given the socket idea, this should not be a problem.

These LED Combo units look pretty good. If they can function with good PAR and reliability I think we just found a tough competitor in LED lighting.

[...] InterZoo 2008 – Sfiligoi Releases more info We showed some photos of Sfiligoi’s latest LED fixture. Although in the same metal skin, we mis-named it as a Stealth. Sfiligoi is calling it the Galaxy and have released additional specs on it. The Galaxy will be available in all LED and LED+T5 configurations, as shown here.          This photo from InterZoo was taken by our friend […] Copyright © 2008 glassbox-design.com. The unit looks fantastic. Is there a controller for it to dim the lights, activate the moonlight, and adjust the colour?

      How much does it cost?

It seems better than the Solaris. What do you think?

Is it time to make the move to LED? I think it probably is.

      Hi David,

There is not a controller of anytype. Honestly I do not know of the light output, but it would be difficult to compare to either the Solaris or Aqua Illumination unit without hard and honest numbers.

As of now I do not think LEDs are ready to provide core lighting for reef tanks. In another year or two they very well may be. Currently T5s and high PAR Metal Halides can provide more light for less watts.

To answer your question on price they range from $1,000 to $5,500… :)
