Hydor’s Wavemaker 2 came out without much excitement due to the price… and the fact it can only control 2 pumps. Not to be left behind by competitors, Hydor realized this and has expanded upon the previous 2 model in the creation of the Wavemaker 4. This model allows easier functioning and control over Hydor’s low voltage Koralias.

We have also heard Hydor will be rolling out some higher output Koralias (No.’s 5,6,7,8) with the 8 model pushing 3,250gph!

WaveMaker4

The 2.5in LCD screen allows independent control of 4 pumps and also allows control of new features such as the photo sensor enabled night mode. A while back we mentioned the new Hydor Performer Line of Protein Skimmers and Calcium Reactors.

Sebastien of CLAM gave us some photos from InterZoo, where Hydor showed off this new high performance line meant to compete with the European heavyweights such as Deltec and H&S.

Shown below is the Hydor Performer Triple at InterZoo.

Hydor Performer Dual

These look to be extremely well made and based on “classic” recirculating skimmer design. Note what looks to be an Anti-Lime loop on the recirculating pumps to cool the motor. This may be only the second pump to incorporate this, with the first being Royal Exclusiv’s Red Dragon for their Bubble King skimmers. This was not shown in any of the initial release images by Hydor, so we’re not sure if it’s inclusive of all models.

The thing that worries us most is the drastic reduction from the skimmer body to neck. We’d love to see a gentle sloping reducer like that incorporated by Warner Marine on their new line.

Below are the stock images from Hydor, where you will see subtle changes in overall appearance and no loop to cool the motor.

Overall a solid design. We really like the schedule 80 and light gray color combo. We will have more photos up soon of Hydor’s Display at InterZoo 2008.

That new wavemaker looks a lot like an aquatronica…did hydor just acquire aquatronica? I seem to remember hearing something about this.

Could be… It looks very very similar and I know the new Aquatronica will control Koralias.

I’ll look into it. Thanks for the heads up ;)

Good eye Mike. Aquatronica is manufactured by AEB Technologies which also makes some Aquamedic components and some Hydor components.

How are the new Hydor skimmers? Are the pumps good? Do they process alot of water and air? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jim,

I have used Hydor Seltz pumps for flow applications in the past without problem, but we have no experience with them used as NWs.

The only numbers we have on air draw are on Hydor’s site where they list 200 and 300lph for the 35 and 45 SK model. That is likely on 50Hz and would increase on 60hz.

    Hi Jim,

As of now, the only concrete info we have is from Hydor’s site.

If we find out more we’ll let you know.

    Regards,
