We got the the skimmer hooked up last night and so far are impressed. It is still breaking in, but has pulled out a little skimmate. We knew we had to have a skimmer stand to elevate the standpipe output over the edge of the sump. To solve this we found this nice handmade bamboo tray. It’s actually meant for flatware, but the different sections make it incredibly strong.
Since it was going to be on a hard surface we picked up these rubber feet to eliminate vibration and quiet it down. We placed a bunch of them on the underside of the DAS base plate to disperse the pressure.
Here it is showing the direct feed from the overflow and the whopping 1mm of tea skimmate. It is directly behind the stand and sump, and fits in nicely.
We just did our first dose of KZ’s Coral Snow… Besides the obvious cloudiness it definitely had an effect on the skimmer’s foam head. We’ll be following up to this post in a few days with our results.

Every time I read DAS-EX, I think of early 90s hip-hoppers Das EFX. Am I the only one? lol
Funny of all the skimmers you can chose from you chose DAS EX, you think you would chose a rare European type. Who made that tank? and where is it built?
