Aquarium Technik Burian, otherwise known as ATB, is coming out with a new standard line of competitively priced cone skimmers, titled the ATB Econo series. What has me the most intrigued is the new Sicce based Airstar pump that Anton has churned out for this new line.
The Sicce PSK 2500 is known as an efficient pump with immense air draw. However, hobbyists have quickly come to find its flaws; in particular start up issues when using mesh. ATB has enlarged the volute to mediate start up issues, and created a 1″ output for even less restriction and even more air pull.
From a design perspective I love the way each individual part comes together. The standard volute cover pops straight on to the larger CNC’d volute. Then you have the base which actually encompases the motor and connects to the base plate that is fitted with four rubber feet. With this design Victor and Anton are tempting many equipment junkies, including myself.
